Well; the best commercially made wood horn can be found at Martinelli Sound; I think he calls his site Woodhorn.com. Or you can make one yourself but it isn't easy.
I'd like to address your remark about what you have heard lately. I have traveled down some roads also and now I listen to a set of bone-stock Altec Valencias in my set-up. I know they are not perfect and the list of sins is long but they do sound like music which is enough for me.
At some point there just isn't more as in MORE; and while there may be better it is just better in some other way, not in total.
I'd wouldn't mind trying those smaller Onken cabs though; with a pair of those woodhorns from EIFL; the raftcraft tied to TAD 2001's.
I like the immediacy of the hornloaded highs; I don't really see shrill as much as people say they do; could be my ears though.
