So that's enough of that (for now anyway)...

I've been OB obsessed lately, but it’s kind of like when you’re a kid, you see some girl across the bar and the next thing you know fidelity is out the door. I just miss BIG – you know?

I saw a pair of promising compression drivers on eBay. That, and my poor impulse control, led to a purchase.

The diaphragms alone are $760 each, so I thought it was worth a chance. They appear to be new, unused.

These drivers are not unlike the compression drivers used in the K2

As far as I have been able to find out they’re quite similar except for the back cover – in the K2 its fancier and larger, allowing a lower XO point.

The magnets are really quite something – they’re quite tiny but they distorted my computer monitor from 18” away.

I have 1-1/2” throat P-Audio baby cheeks on order.

They’re going on top of 2225H’s in a 40Hz vented enclosure. Those are going on top of Altec 3182’s in 7+ cu ft sealed boxes (-3dB at 35 Hz).

The 2225 boxes ought to be finished tomorrow, the 3182 enclosures by Sunday (just sent my son out to fetch some MDF).

Finishing and set-up will take a while – I’m not fancy about finish since they won’t last very long before I’m on to something else – but it might be a bit before they’re hooked up and playing since those bastards who pay me insist on certain minimal attendance and travel requirements – why don’t they respect an artist at work?

I’ll let you know how it works out.
