There is absolutely no reason why a bandpass system has to be high Q - "single note". If it is then you don't know how to design one. They can be nearly any bandwidth that you want - just like the dual ported design.
And as far as there "transient response" - please! No bandpass subwoofer system has any transient response. That's why its called a "subwoofer". The transients occur somewhere else.
