Cutting trees if done properly by a forester is not damaging. Clearcutting is; which obviously is what the lumber guys want. But my post refers to the desire on the part of the oil and gas people to get access to the vast resources frozen by law in the public trust. They want logging rights in order to feul the CO-Fired coal plants that comprise a big part of the Bush energy plan. They want to cement their developement rights on lands granted to the public trust that as of now by law they can't touch. So under the guise of responding to a national energy emergency they appropriate those Forests held in common and deed them to private developers who now build on the land and complete what amounts to a hostile taking of yours and my property as American citizens.
In Mexico; 2% of the population holds 80% of the wealth. I would prefer it not get to that here. The Amazon forests are disappearing at the rate of 50 sq. miles a day. Astronauts who have witnessed the earth from on high are amazed at the obvious patches of blank land where there used to be forest. All in the name of developement.
If we are civilised we can do this without giving the land to huge mega-corporations that are not even headquartered in this country many times. The Bush administrations energy policy is really not a policy at all it is a shameless grab for personal wealth by the oil and gas lobbies.
