When I was in the fifth grade the teacher gave me a note to bring home. He wanted to meet with my mother and myself after school. This was a big deal - unprecedented. I was the nerd's nerd – kept to myself, never in trouble before.
The teacher told my mother he was concerned about me and my home life – that he’d never met such a cynic in his life, and the fact that I was so young was very troublesome (to him).
