I really like watching some of the pioneering work being done with new amorphous glassy metals. Some alloys do cool stuff like acting as superconductors or being unusually hard and elastic. Amorphous steel was a holy grail for a long time because of its unique properties. It is stronger and non-magnetic among other things. Other alloys are superplastic, very strong, resistant to corrosion, superconductive or non-magnetic.
