Modular Speakers

In order to bring my speakers up from the shop in the basement, for general portability, and for the ability to experiment with changes, I am looking at a modular design where the woofer is one unit and the rest is another one (or two). Think along the lines of a 15" woofer, 10" mid-horn, and 2" compression driver with large horn. (I already have the drivers.)

I am wondering what I should put at the joint of two units. I want the material to prevent creeping of the upper unit and provide some damping of the vibrations, but not be too ugly nor make a mess when separated. I am thinking along the lines of a rubber sheet (but will be messy over time and ugly?), or felt (but may allow the units to creep?), or rubber feet (leave marks and be ugly?).

Any ideas?
