At the recent RMAF I showed two of my speakers, the $2800 chunky stand-mount Stormbringer and the $4000 floorstanding Jazz Modules.
Below is a link to online images of Stormbringer; from there click on "next" to see the Jazz Modules. The short stands under the Jazz Modules are purely cosmetic, so ignore them.
I asked everyone I could who heard both speakers which they preferred. Opinion was split exactly 50-50. So, you'd think I'd have sold more of the cheaper Stormbringers, right?
Well, that's what I expected, but I haven't sold a single pair - haven't even come close! Sold several pairs of Jazz Modules, though.
I suspect something other than sound quality is killing my Stormbringer sales. I suspect it's the format - they're too large for stand-mount speakers. So, I'm thinking of putting them in a Jazz Module-style tower. That would raise the price by $200 a pair to an even three grand. But stands would probably cost at least that much, so the total price wouldn't move much.
I went with the stand-mount because it's cheaper, and I wanted to keep the price down. But even moreso, I want to make a few sales.
Any comments on switching Stormbringer to floorstander configuration would be appreciated.
