The replacement woofers with the shorting rings arrived, and the clarity was indeed better. Unfortunately, these new woofers had a nasty peak at 2 kHz.

I had Eminence send me out some replacement dustcaps, and I glued the thickest one in place. That helped tame the peak enough that I think we now have a winner, and I'm placing an order with Eminence for a batch of woofers.
