Many people do not use just one amp for an array. I I used just one I'd need something on the order of 1200 watts at least.

Many people, myself included, use electronic crossover and tri-amp the whole system, which entails use of a pre-amp, and power amps. I have a basic Kenwood B-1 preamp, an electronic Rane crossover, a separate NAD 65 watt/ch amp for my tweeters, a separate Linear tech 250 watt/ch amp for my mid ranges, and a separate 350 watt/ch amps for each of the two DVC woofers. I also use a DOD constant Q equalizer in between the pre-amp and the crossover.
