The only way I was able to check this was with repeated measurement of the frequency response of the left and right sides using the Tact 2.2XP. The 9 tweeters per side are in groups of 3 - I measured each group separately, identified the problem being in the middle group and then changed the polarity of one tweeter at a time in the middle group (right side was the problem) until I got an identical frequency response on both sides.
There may be other ways to do this but I am unaware of this. BTW I tried a 1.5V AAA battery but could not detect ribbon movement accurately enough to check phase.
Ultimately, IMHO, measurements are essential to determine possible problems in DIY designs.
