In my youth, I used to connect the right and left channels to a two-channel oscilloscope and set it to display Lissajous patterns. Sometimes I still do.

Doing this, one channel drives the trace left and right and the other channel drives it up and down. Makes an interesting display, and is the same method used in many laser light shows.
