Is it better to go for a system that has a radio as well? Is the sound quality good enough to not have the kids wearing headphones every trip?

I am going to preface this with a short aside about why I am doing this. The hearing in my left ear is not as strong as my right ear. That said, I have to adjust the balance on the windows K-mixer pretty often. I don't have to do this with loudspeakers at all. So I want to create a better virtual center channel.
Now that that is out of the way. I use winamp and probably always will for a variety of reasons. There is a plugin that will crossfeed the right into the left and vice versa. Basically a 4-channel mixer that goes into 2 channels. I've tested it a few times and it works for exactly what I want to do. Which is introduce a small (or large) amount of the other channels signal into each headphone driver.
Given that I have never used this before, I don't know what would be the negative consequences. I noticed the signal is a bit louder obviously, but that is corrected already because the gain never exceeds 93.5db.
Anyway, what are we dealing with here? Is there going to be a phase cancellation somewhere (the plugin will do that too, if you wish, by using different levels for each channel)
What I really want to know is what is the typical amount of variation from one ear on a well placed set of speakers. That is to say, if I turned off the right speaker, how loud would the left channel be in each ear?
I know this is a complicated issue and it is hard to get across, but any advice or input would be helpful.
Here is a link to see what the plugin looks like:

Has anyone bought something like this from the 'net for their home use? The Music Fan's Factory site has some pretty cool offers but I'm not sure if they are really worth it.

You may have noticed ART's forum layout has changed. Some of the forums are no longer online. None of the posts or threads were deleted, they were just merged into a smaller number of top-level forums. For example, Pro Speakers and Pro Sound were merged together with the Guitar Amp forums to form a single "Pro Sound" forum.
If you cannot find your forum or thread because it was moved, look for it in the forum that is most like it. Hopefully, this new layout is more convenient for everyone.

I remember my mother had an old table top player that could be removed from the base (looked like a mini table stand) or sit flat on a table. Has anyone seen anything like this?

AudioRoundTable.com would like to welcome our newest sponsor, Touchstone Audio. We're proud to include them here at the Round Table.
Those of you that were at the 2010 Lone Star Audiofest may remember Jim Goulding, the tall, friendly fellow with the felt edge diffraction pads. Jim is the designer and proprietor of Touchstone Audio.
There will no doubt be many interesting discussions in the new Touchstone Audio forum, here at ART.

We had an outage yesterday for a few hours in the afternoon. I was traveling, so didn't notice until I got back to Tulsa. When I arrived, I saw that traffic on ART was through the roof, mostly people viewing the LSAF thread with photos, and as a result, we suffered an outage that lasted for most of the afternoon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I've just updated the search engine to give ART the ability to search for part numbers. To be honest, I can't believe I never noticed this before, but when we moved from the original WWWBoard format to this one, we lost the ability to search for phrases containing numbers. That meant searches for things like KT88, 6550, TD12S and 2226 wouldn't work.
Like I said, I don't know how I missed that, but I guess it's because I knew where to find most of the archived posts I needed. I vaguely remember trying to search for "6DJ8" once before and finding no search results, but I disregarded it and searched for "tube preamp" instead. It was only yesterday when I tried to search for "KT88" and "6550", when I got no results, I looked further and found that the database search index wasn't storing numbers. So I recoded and reindexed. You may have noticed a couple of brief outages earlier, and that's why - the system was being reindexed.
Anyway, hopefully this will make the site much more useful.

If you have an older car radio that is locked, how do you go about finding the code? Would it be better to just replace the radio?

I have had horrible luck with Gigaware headsets. I have bought 4 different pairs and each time they only last for 2-3 months. The only time I use these is if I am chatting with someone online or listening to music. Has anyone else had the same experience with this brand?

Good morning.
I'm trying to set up an Allen & Heath iLive T80 sound board in the new tv studio we're building at the college I work at. My background is video, so I'm having a problem.
We're wanting to set up a mix/minus audio feed from the control room to the studio. Just so we're on the same page, we want to feed program to the studio, minus the microphones from that studio.
I'm assuming I need to set up a different output from the board (not the program out), but I'm unsure as to how to do this.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

I would like a car audio system that I can dock my iPhone with and that will control it. What is available in the lower to mid price range that has a good sound?

AudioRoundTable.com would like to welcome our newest sponsor, VanZyl Audio. We're proud to include them here at the Round Table.
Those of you that were at the 2009 Lone Star Audiofest will remember the tall rear-loaded horn speakers displayed by VanZyl Audio. They have a full-range driver loaded by a rear horn and a ribbon tweeter to cover the top-octave and beyond.
Johan VanZyl is the designer and proprietor of VanZyl Audio. It's a new venture for him, but he's not new to audio. In fact, he is the designer of the horns marketed by BASSMAXX and MaxxHorn. There will no doubt be many interesting discussions in the new VanZyl Audio forum, here at ART.

I was reading my new issue of GW today and ran across an interesting reference in a column about changing/upgrading the speakers in your guitar cabs. ART was mentioned on pg. 106 of the June edition of Guitar World as a good source for speaker knowledge. Cool!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate of the value of a Harmon Kardon CD 191 (Ultrawideband Linear Phase cassette deck) and an Akai AA-A45 stereo receiver with FM tuner for Records, CD, and cassettes. I'm trying to find out if there's anyone out there who would be interested as a collector and audiofile. If anyone has any feedback on how I would get in contact with collectors it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
