Re: Definimax 4012HO - End of Life
I agree with you, 100%. Those B&C midwoofers are really nice. It's a wonderful top-notch in the upgrade path for the three π model loudspeaker. I think this 2020 version is the best that the three π loudspeaker has ever been. I also agree with ...

4 Pi Damping Questions
New member here. Hope everyone in the Pi community is surviving the Coronavirus. I'm under self quarantine with a little too much time on my hands. My wife wants me to paint the living room, but am having too much fun researching 4 Pi speakers. A li...

Re: 3 Pi sub questions
No bracing needed. Panel resonances are way outside the passband. No need for insulation as damping material either, for a similar reason. The internal standing waves are also far above the passband.

Re: 4 pi speakers with existing cabs
That looks like a really good speaker, but honestly, I wouldn't use it because it's an unknown variable. The four Pi loudspeaker has been designed and tested thoroughly and so we know how it acts. In particular, I'm concerned about the internal standin...

Re: Three Pi and Three Pi Sub Plans
What you propose sounds like it would work pretty well. You would lose a couple synergies that are designed into the three π and four π models though. And you would need to test your design with acoustic measurements, paying special attention to the lo...

Re: Definimax 4012HO - End of Life
See the following link: Magnet structures This shows what shorting rings do and what you can expect from them. Of course there is never any harm covering the waveguide with damping material, but the bell mode of the H290C is well below the p...

Re: WinISD 0.44
The bass bin in my constant directivity cornerhorns is run low enough that the standing wave modes aren't an issue. There is some low midrange content, to be sure, but it is attenuated enough that the standing waves aren't troublesome. My comments ab...

Re: WinISD 0.44
That's approximately the same size box I run. It sounds great in that size box. I tune mine a little below that, which as you said, gives the system an overdamped alignment. I like that because thermal shifts don't push towards underdamping, but rathe...

Re: 2 Pi completed
Your speakers look great! As for the stands, you can make larger ones that are stable, of course. I put my both my three π and four π speakers on stands and they are very stable. They just need to have large platforms. About mods, the one π and t...

Re: Aperiodic loading
I've made a lot of measurements with damping material placed in different positions within the cabinet. My goal was to find what effects placement had on damping various frequency ranges; Specifically, I hoped to reduce internal standing waves. What...
