Re: New Project IC phono preamp
Hi For folks that figure the posted version is too complicated or costly this version is for those of you who can stand slightly reduced specs in exchange for a greatly reduced cost. It is like the high-performance version but uses standard components and...

Re: New Project IC phono preamp
Dude, that's awesome! Do you have a kit or a PCB for sale for this phono stage? Since you said, "Stay tuned for a schematic when I get it made up," that may be a bit of a premature request but do you have any estimates for timeframe, cost a...

Re: A little something I cooked up
Hi, It took about a day. Nothing critical, but layout can be an issue if you haven't worked with DIP ICs. Everything seems to get in the way of the negative (inverting to output) feed back components. I attached a photo that uses some of the small pcbs ...

Hello All, I just came back from out of state and saw the above post. >> Recently, I have been seeing standard definitions being altered. >> I am posting in response to the previous post and simplifying as much as possible to help the ...

Re: Class A, AB1, B, C Operation/Modes
I worry about jacks becoming hot, then we would have AC voltage between the jacks and chassis ground. It is a long shot to be sure, I have had plenty of shock therapy when I was a kid. Amazingly, we survived those old AC/DC radios. There always s...

Re: Practical limit to tube based phono preamps
Hi, Good stuff. I nearly always use JJ small signal tubes. As you noted they are quiet and accurate. I like simple designs with as few stages as necessary with as few components as needed to do the job. It is possible to achieve really excellent resul...

Re: Practical limit to tube based phono preamps
So true. I personally designed at least 4 stages of filtering in my amps pre output stage, and I went from 5 to 6 stages of power supply filtering for my preamplifier. I use 2 chassis design, and 6 stages of filtering in my phono stage as well. Cheers...

Re: Practical limit to tube based phono preamps
I'm with you there. The most annoying noise to me - by far - is power supply hum. If a tube amp keeps that down below audibility, it's a big deal to me. That's so rare. This is especially true when you stack all tube phono stage, preamp and power amp...

Re: Practical limit to tube based phono preamps
A few thoughts for the newbies out there. 1. Tubes produces internal noise from a variety of reasons. 2. The resistors associated with said tube also produce noise. A. The cathode resistor noise will be amplified by the tube's gain. ...
