Baffle step and collapsing directivity
I was just in another discussion with some folks that considered baffle step correction a mandatory step in crossover design. I don't dismiss it entirely, but I do think it is sometimes given too much emphasis. Another thing I noticed is that these peop...

Re: Four Pi and BSC
Baffle step correction isn't wanted or needed for these speakers. They're designed for uniform power response over a wide area, and baffle step is really specific to on-axis response. Even if considering just the forward axis, speakers with baffles smal...

Four Pi and BSC
Hi,I was wondering if the Four Pi has been designed to take into account baffle step Correction? If not does a crossover design exist that has say 3-4db of BSC? I prefer not to put speakers against the wall to get the correct tonally balance.Cheers,Anthon...

Re: Baffled by Baffles....
The baffles are going to be, (well, I ALREADY have the plywood so they ARE) 20" X 25" with just slightly radius corners for aesthetic purposes. They are going to be mounted to some 1.5" X 1.5" steel speaker stands I made a while back, and I plan on having...

Re: Baffled by Baffles....
Hi gfederys,The way I understand it is you want to breakup the baffle step transition. It is even more imporatnt on an OB speaker than a box speaker because OB speakers don't just transfer halfspace to wholespace but they also transfer from constructive t...

Re: hearable?
Probably the best thing to do is run a measurement curve and determine what transfer function you want them to use. You don't need a stepped baffle if you have a crossover that can vary the delay on the tweeter section.I'll note that I usually suggest the...

Re: hearable?
Thanks for the input! I will ask Marchand and see what they can suggest. I understand the step baffle concept, but I need to learn more. I assume if a stepped baffle is included, it will be designed for my specific speaker cabinet, and crossover? Any othe...

Re: hearable?
Tom,If you go with the Marchand I would have them add the baffle step compensation at the factory. It's really time for a reasonably priced DSP crossover made for home systems with RCA ins/outs

Re: Geat info guys, Thanks!
Hi Norris,Let me come at this from a bit different angle that hopefully will address your questions along the way. A monopole speaker and a bipole speaker (in this example the bipole having the same kind of drivers as the monopole, but twice as many) will...

Geat info guys, Thanks!
Duke,Thanks for clearing up the bipolar mounted woofers and their cabinet loading effect. For some reason I thought if they were closely coupled. That they would load the cabinet like an isobaric design. At least I thought they would only need a cabinet...
