Re: The subwoofer volume and crossover
I was generalizing the concepts and using "round numbers" in my earlier post above. Flanking subs are setup to blend generally in the 100-200Hz region, but in practice the blending region is shifted a little lower than that. Distributed mul...

Re: Placing speakers against the wall
Just to be clear for those that don't study the material in the links: Placing a speaker against the wall that is not designed for it has disadvantages. But a speaker can be designed to be placed against a wall, turning potential problems into streng...

Re: 4 pi speaker plans please
Answers below your questions: I've been lusting after these for a while, but I have some questions. How far apart and how high off of the floor should these be ideally? I would like to make a custom console/tv stand combo that contains them. Set...

Re: 3 PI build
The next job was to cut the woofer holes and make the recess for flush mounting the horn. The woofers were pretty easy. I used a Jasper Jig mounted on a plunge router to make the recess then the through hole. For a 4012 HO woofer I went with the 11 1/1...

Looking for a change
Hello Wayne I have a smallish room 12.5x20x8ft. I have experimented with a few speakers over the years including Newform 645 ribbons and lately a pair of GR research OB7s that I built from a kit. None of these speakers have meant my expectations in this...

Re: First coil in woofer's LPF with and without helper woofers
This is a topic that's important to me too. Please see the Pi Speakers FAQ, because there is a lot of information there about baffle step compensation, changing directivity (which is what baffle step really is) and other related topics. Pi Speakers FAQ

First coil in woofer's LPF with and without helper woofers
Hi Wayne, Hi everybody, I'm wandering around the subject of rising woofers response compensation. In the world of wide baffles and controlled directivity, baffle step compensation (coil + resistor) is not commonly used. On the other hand, one can often...

Re: An amazing listening session with the H290C
Could be a lot of things: 1. Different compression drivers. The rear chamber can be sized to provide reactance annulling, which will smooth response down low. It sort of fills in the first hole, right above cutoff. But in truth, this is probably n...

Re: An amazing listening session with the H290C
You definitely want the Rs resistor installed and the C1 capacitor removed. This provides the best response. Of course, you can always leave C1 in place, but doing that gives a slightly tilted-up response, totalling about 3dB more at the very top end. ...

Notes On Speaker Grills
In my Notes On 2PI Towers I mentioned they were designed for Grills, something I seldom do. Seldom, because I never seem to have any luck with them I've used the spray adhesive/waxed paper technique and the brute force hundreds of staples routine. N...
