Re: 3Pi Subwoofer
The woofer is your OEM version of the Lab 12? What amp are you using? Internal plate or something else? Low level from the pre-amp or high?

Re: Under-Biasing Output Tubes
Hi AudioFred, "I read somewhere that lowering the bias somewhat will extend tube life. The amp is rated at 50w/ch with KT88's, and I'm using efficient speakers that never require more than about five watts peak. What's the upside and downside of bi...

Re: A speaker/earbud setup in a GPS
Solid state amps are usually more prone to damage by excessive output current, so you don't want to short the outputs or drive a load that has too low impedance. Tube amps sometimes are just the opposite, in that too high impedance load will allow the p...

Re: Check out this REMOTE Control Amp!
Well... so how is it working so far? I made a bad TV buy. Made up a built-in-to-the-wall 2.1 system for it using the PE plate amp and come to find out the TV doesn't have any analog outputs. Crap! Has optical, so I buy a converter, again from PE. OK, ...

Re: 3 Pi subs paralleled from plate amp
Thanks, Wayne. In this case I might look into a used stereo power amp as I have an active rackmount low pass if needed. But the plate amps are more convenient.

Re: 3 Pi subs paralleled from plate amp
I think it's probably a bit too much load to parallel them. That would put the impedance down at around 2Ω. I would run one plate amp on each speaker, bolt one on the back of each. Run the right signal to the right flanking sub, the left signal to the...

3 Pi subs paralleled from plate amp
Wayne, I am considering building a pair of 3 Pi subs to flank mains. I would like to put a plate amp in one, and parallel the amp out to the other sub. These are the amps I would consider: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300...

Re: Subs
You can mount a plate amp on the back if you want a powered sub. That's the only difference - a powered sub has an amplifier bolted on.

Re: LAB12
You could build one up passively. Or you could go cheap active, such as: Use the LF portion of a Behringer CX3400. About $100.00. It will sum L&R out with variable low band x-o starting at 44 Hz. You could use the crossover in that to send a fil...
