With a lot of counterfeits in the market today, how can a person ensure that there is a value for money in what they are purchasing? Should we only concentrate on the renown brands?

I guess the same way as normal. Buy from a reputed supplier and even if the brand isn't well known, even the supplier's bargain options should be good. Check out the reviews online before buying, and always sure you hear it playing if possible - and if you buy online, make sure you can send it back for a refund!
