Nice! Definitely better looking than the 3Pi I brought to AKFest two weeks ago... especially the AE woofer.

I notice you're using stands with the 3Pi. At AKFest I just plunked them down on the floor and gave a little tilt back with a board (day 1) or spikes (day 2). How high are those stands and what is the recommended listening height? Is the goal to get your ear level with the tweeter or a point between the tweeter and woofer? Wondering because I'm planning the cabinets for a pair of 4Pi right now.

Also, is it just an illusion in photo or is there some tilt back on those stands?

And lastly, what are you using for amplification and how are you powering the subs?

Thanks Wayne... wish I could be there.

Same speakers as yours, just with that really sexy TD12S. Night and day there, you might spring for a set of upgraded woofers if you can.

As for stands, I usually don't put them on stands unless I'm running subs. This prevents floor bounce and gives a smidge more boundary reinforcement. But if you're running subs, floor bounce is mitigated, after all, it's really one of the room modes that the multisub arrangement addresses.

The stands I'm using are 12" tall and have a 3° tilt. This puts the center of the forward lobe right at ear level when sitting in a chair about 5-8 feet back. Not that it matters, since you have about a 50° arc of clean forward lobe in the vertical, plenty of pattern height where the sound is good. But the 3° tilt looks good too. Cool

Looked through all the pictures you posted on LSAF 2010. Lots of cool equipment, but the 3 pi speakers you brought looked fantastic (I also liked Duke's speakers with the 45 degree angled baffle).

I hope you receive lots of favorable comments and sales!

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, it was a good show. And I like Duke's stuff too. He and I go back a ways and are definitely birds of a feather. Cool

Wayne's 3Pis even got some (very) postive mentions over on the DIYaudio Fullrange forum. They were referred to as "seamless", which from a committed fullrange driver fan speaks volumes.

Can't wait to get started on mine...

Cheers

Thanks for pointing that out. I went and looked for the thread you mentioned - I assume it's this one?

Hi Wayne - that is the thread.

Again, to impress one of these guys with a multi-way (esp. one with the x-over in the 'critical range') with a seamless presentation (normally a strength of non-whizzered wide-rangers) is perhaps more significant than it seems.

Robert mentioned the 3Pis at post #7 and they(and Wayne) were also given a speacial mention at post #23.

Nice work and congrats!

Cheers

Nice cabinets, beautiful veneer and finish. They look even better in person.

I loved the sound coming from this speaker, very balanced across the frequency spectrum.
Yours was easily one of the best systems at the show.

I can't wait to get my hands on a pair of these beauties.
