Is it normal to find home theaters that do not have an audio plug in for the PC? How else can I use the home theater sound on a PC?

You don't need a special plug for PC audio...any spare line level one (aux, tape, cd etc) will do. If you want to directly use something like a USB connection then an adapter will be needed that converts USB to audio. Same goes for optical and similar PC outputs. Most AV gear now has HDMI inputs and now many PCs do as well. That IMO is the best way to connect. Older gear often does not have HDMI capability.
