My universal remote not working [message #83582]

How can we best take care of the remote? I have a rechargeable one and sometimes it just won't respond. I bought a new set of batteries but this problem keeps persisting. The IR emitters are in place so I am even considering buying a new remote.

I have never had a problem with my remote as I always prefer to keep it away from the kids when its not in use. I do not use rechargeable batteries but I am considering purchasing them soon.
