I completed these for John Prator (www.koolcables.com) just this morning, and they're playing in the smaller listening room. They use Dave Merrill's DCA4 full range drivers. They do the single driver thing very nicely, and the bass surprised me. I was anticipating a bright anemic sound, and it turns out they aren't overly bright at all, and the bass is OK. They are happier with a subwoofer, but for most music they will offer much enjoyment without bass reinforcement.

Very nice, Fred! Thanks for posting the links!

With that long of a line, I would expect bass to be decent. Are those little 4" drivers?

What kind of finish are you planning? Will they be veneered or painted? Or is John going to take them and have the finish applied himself?

John will finish them. I have a fairly well equipped workshop and often volunteer to do the dumb part - pushing wood thru the table saw and gluing it all together. The cost to build these enclosures was about $30/pr. See them under construction at the link belwo.

Nice, Fred! See if you can get the dca 5.5 drivers, which to my ears are totally ahead of the 4's! Interesting to see how the sound would change (my guess is much more upper bass and better highs).

I've started building a pair of Zigmahornets, but I just found out that the Merrill DCA4 drivers are sold out! So, now I'm in trouble! I also found out that the Fostex FE103E Sigma drivers are not longer being sold in Europe or Japan. And I heard that the Fostex FE103E drivers (not the Sigma version) aren't very good.

So, could someone please recommend another driver that might work instead?
