I am posting this message around trying to get concensus on things.
Not much concensus, not much good at spelling either.

I have several solid state preamps with phono stages - Two different Carver preamp models and a NAD preamp. I also have a small DIY tube setup, using Paramours and a Foreplay. A matching Seduction kit is on its way.

Thanks Wayne,

I am a subscriber of _audioXpress_ and there is a project
they are starting in there on a tube-based phono preamp.

Other thing that looks like it has everything for my
admittedly small purposes is from Blaze Audio at the link
below. My primary purpose would be to get LP recordings
transferred to digital format for archiving purposes.

That Blaze Audio product looks interesting. Bundling recording software for archiving vinyl to disc is a nice touch.

About the audioXpress phono preamp project, who is the designer of the amp? Who is authoring the project? I'll run out and purchase a copy of the magazine, and probably should subscribe. But for the purpose of discussion here, I'd like to know.

Are you planning to build the phono preamp from the audioXpress plans? If so, I'd love to see a write-up here. It's really great to see pics of the build-up too!

I may do that with the Seduction phono stage, but I think it is already a very popular product. To write about my experience with it may be sort of redundant.

They have a couple phono pieces in the current ish of _aX_.

The article is called Canto Sirena, Part 1 on page 32 of the
January 2004 edition of _Ed Dell's _AudioXpress_. Those looking
for a copy of this excellent magazine could try Barnes and Noble.

The author is James Lin and it says in the bio that
Lin has written for The Audio Amateur,Speakerbuilder
and Glass Audio (these were the previous publications which
Ed Dell combined as _Audio Express_. The one magazine
has articles on all these subjects now.

Will see how much goes into this project of Mr. Lin's.

I am just irked to see the ads for phono preamps in _aX_ for
$600! It just seems irrational. But I also do not know the
cost of the tubes and parts used in the device which Mr. Lin
has designed.

The only named reference to another tube design is by
J.C. Morrison called The Siren's Song, after which Mr. Lin
derived the name for his design. There is also a full reference
section of source material.

The design looks to be a rack mount construction and the
details will be provided in an upcoming _aX_.

If I did the project I'd have to have my hand held
step by step. Depends on if I can get some help on this
end for doing the actual assembly.

Thanks for the reply - Lots of good information.

I'll have to check into that series of articles on AudioXpress.

Happy New Years, That phono stage is a octal tube based balanced differential two-stage, might be noisy for low output mc's. I have a seduction that I like but heres a thought just for giggles, the Harmon Citation 1 that I have sounds so rich and full and has every possible adjustment for eq. Some say that Stew Hegerman used anode follower and that accounts for the sound. Al;l I know is I love the tone and while the seduction and my modified pas sound good I really love the citation. Just a thought but they are cheap.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll definitely keep my eye out for a Harmon Citation and check it out.

Acurus P-10.
The P-10 has a shielded internal power supply and discrete components.
I hate the sound of IC’S. The next best thing is a tube pre amp.

I can set gain and load in the P-10.
