Re: Old but gold
Hi, I have a pair of Altec Lansing "Magnificents" (all 7cubic feet each) that I use regularly. An entirely different sound than the Martin Logan ESLs. Both are great in their own ways.

Re: Old but gold
Lots of folks I know love their vintage speakers. Some have really stood the test of time as classic designs. I'm most familiar with high-efficiency offerings from Klipsch, JBL and Altec. But there are classic designs of every other type that are also...

Re: Retrofitting Altec 612 cabinet for a 4pi build
There you go! That's a fantastic idea!
Evan Flavell (Zilch) would love that cabinet. He'd be proud!

Thanks for the helpful links, Wayne.
I will likely take the Econowave approach and use this for a platform for experimentation and learning.

Re: Retrofitting Altec 612 cabinet for a 4pi build
I wouldn't change the dimensions of the cabinet for these reasons (from the Pi Speakers FAQ):
Cabinet design, port placement and internal standing waves
Damping material placement
Altering Dimensions
I realize you are talking about reducing the inter...

I have an empty 6cu. ft. cabinet I want to do something with. I'm curious if the 4pi might work in this enclosure using a combination of volume reduction strategies.
You can read the full backstory on this thread on DIY Audio.
I was encouraged to a...

Re: Download the app, of course
Hi, the ESLs are different from conventional speakers as they present more of a unified sound stage and less of a point source type of sound. They do both direct and reflected sound and are a bit tricky to set up and honestly will not work well in all roo...

Re: Download the app, of course
Curious. Then too none of mine (Vintage Altec Lansing, Vintage Klipsch and Contemporary Martin Logan ESLs) need anything. They were all made to work right out of the box. My main system doesn't even have any sort of tone controls either. IMO (YMMV) I fi...
