The older musicals sees to dub actors a lot, even if they could sing but weren't quite strong enough. Modern ones tend to have the actors perform their own songs, which isn't always a good thing (my bleeding ears). Do you think they should be dubbed, or sing themselves? I think it's like using a stuntman. If the actor can't do it and the character can, get someone who can to stand in.
