Hello.

I am interested in improving computer sound output. I currently have an old, home-made desktop; my partner has a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. I have read that the best way to transfer audio output to an amplifier, for example, is via an s/pdif output. I wonder whether it might be worth buying a computer with an s/pdif output, and whether anybody can advise which mid-range laptop (maximum £400.00) which have this output.

Or, alternatively, would it be as well to use one of the computers we already have, and attach a usb to s/pdif converter of the following type: http://www.firestone-audio.eu/shop/products/allproductslisted/bravo.php.

Finally, I wonder whether it would help to insert a superior sound card. I believe that some of these include a s/pdif output?

I would very much appreciate any advice.

Thank you in advance.

Wishes.

Rich.
