I am really excited, because I scored a nice record player that works at a thrift store today! I think I might do a few mods to the player, but I am not sure yet. To think, I almost told my girlfriend to go to the thrift store by herself!

Cool. Three of the last 4 turntables I bought came from thrift shops. Also two sets of speakers (Altec 1010s for $75 and Klipsch KG4s for $80. BTW my main turntable a Dual 701 is a thrift shop buy.
I've recently discovered that thrift stores can be a source for unusual treasures. I haven't found anything as cool as a record player yet, but that will definitely be something I'll keep an eye out for.
I've never come across any really great steals while thrift store shopping, but my sister-in-law did. She and my mother-in-law went to the local Goodwill and came back with a boombox-style stereo, complete with a 6-cd changer. Not my kind of stereo, personally, but it's loud with deep bass and it was only $6.
That's the thing about thrift stores. You never know what you're going to find there. Turntables especially are a pretty cool find because more times then not, they work and still put out decent sound.
Congratulations on the find. The best deals I ever found at a thrift store (it was actually the local flee market) were a couple of Iron Maiden records at 10 cents a pop.
Yeah, flea markets are a good place to go to. There is a thrift store right down the street from me and I've been wanting to check it out for awhile now. There's no better time then the present I suppose.
