I bought 4 lots of, and I quote,: " (5) Aerovox 19.5uF Motor run capacitors. $4.50 each."

I think that's too cheap for 5 pieces so I figure its an E-Bayism and buy it now for a quantity of 4. $30 with shipping.

Then I wait to see if I get 4 pieces or twenty.

They just came. 20, Brand new oil caps! A buck fifty each!

Hey, they all have a .5 megohm resistor across the terminals. Never seen that before. Leave it? Or is it for storage?

Sweet! Such a deal.

The shunt resistors are to discharge the capacitors so they don't maintain a dangerously high voltage. Leave 'em in place if they'll be in high voltage circuits. It is such a high resistance, it won't make the capacitors act leaky. If the caps are used in low voltage circuits, it doesn't matter as much.

What the heck can I do with 20 except build a single-ended air conditioner?:)

Perfect for the 1.6k crossover and I'm listening to them now. Greater clarity than the Eminence generic caps they replaced but obviously still breaking in. I'm hearing changes.

Sure you have enough? [message #4577 is a reply to message #4576] Sat, 13 October 2007 22:10 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Bill,

I got some 22uF Obligato caps from DIY Hifi that you recommended for parafeed caps to use in a xover I'm working on- do you think the Aerovox's are better than those? Have you a/b'd them? how're the DE250's doing? Keepers or are you continuing the quest?

I'm waiting on the mail gal to bring me a pair of those 22uF Obbligatos so we'll find out soon.

As for the DE-250s, apart from being forever spoiled by the 1812s 2" 2446 and Speakermans GP 399s, I think they're the best 1" I've heard. Keepers.

Capacitors arrived today. Thanks, Bill!

You see those numbers written on top? Did you measure them and write the microfarad value on top? Looks like somebody did.

You don't think I'd send you anything but matched pairs, do you?
