Grand Master
Wayne, I just received the PX-bII 1k6 from Parts Express and noticed that it does not include R3 and C5 from your crossover schematic. I assume I need to add these so can you give me the ratings for the components: C5 is the 20uF cap and R3 is the 8 ohm resistor: both across the woofer of the Theater 4's. I did order the parts for the tweeter compensation, fortunately. One other question: Do you know if the inductors in the stock crossover are the exact same values as you've spec'ed in you crossover document:"Crossover Diagram 1600Hz"? Thanks!

Garland

You're right, the Zobel is mounted off-board. Mount resistor R3 on the interior floor of the cabinet, and run wires up to the woofer, using spade lugs to connect to it. R3 is an 8 ohm, 100 watt resistor, part number 019-020 at Parts Express. They cost ten bucks and mount very nicely to the bottom of your cabinet with a couple of wood screws. C5 is a 20uF, 250V polypropylene capacitor. You can use Parts Express number 027-436.
C5, R3? Huh? [message #34427 is a reply to message #34424] Sat, 15 December 2001 19:06 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I thought Garland was building Theatre 4's like mine. My crossover is the stock pxb2-1.6 with 16ohm resistor across the tweeter output and another 160hm connected to a .47 cap to the tweeter. There is no C5 and R3 on my schematic. Whats up, Wayne?

R3 and C5 are a Zobel woofer damper. Those components aren't used on the 1K6alxxdB crossover, which has only a coil in series with the woofer. But it seems like you have Theater four π speakers, don't you? Those use the 1K6a010dB crossover, which does include those components. If you don't have R3 and C5 installed, the midwoofer will have some peaking around 2kHz so you'll want to add them. It's easy to do, just wire 8 ohm R3 and 20uF C5 in series and connect the ends of the series line across the woofer.
