Re: Subwoofers are back in town
That's it Wayne, "subtle". I thought I might be going overboard building four 15" sealed subs. My sub amp is switched with my processor, so it's easy to play music or video with the main amps off (and speakers silent). The subs just r...

Re: Pre/pros in THX small in number big in price
I personally could care less about "certification" from THX, because I don't find it relevant. I'm looking for a whole lot more where quality is concerned than what they require for certification. For example, even their highest certification...

Re: Kind of crazy idea for a flanking sub processor
Just butting in here because I think I get what you guys are cooking up and I likey! What about this idea: Come up with a circuit of some kind that will allow you to connect Left, Right, and CENTER. Then, when bass above 80hz pans hard left, it goes...

Re: flanking subs with small mains
A long time ago, back when I had black light posters all over my walls, I used to run my oscilloscope with its two channels connected to the right and left channels of my stereo. I'd setup to make Lissajous patterns like a little laser light show. One ...

Re: flanking subs with small mains
Let me see if I understand you right. This is what I think you are saying: 1. When bass management is used, the sub output is low-passed and the mains are high-passed at the same frequency. 2. You are considering setting this frequency to 60Hz to ...

Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers, revisited
Wayne, I'm trying to think of cost-effective approaches to not only building multiple and flanking subs, but also have some serious output as well (for home theater). It seems logical to me that one could build some subs that sacrifice low end fo...

Re: Flanking Subs vs Helper Woofers
Hi Wayne, The situation regarding Harman and multiple subs has been somewhat confusing. The first multi-sub processor box they made that I'm aware of was the BassQ. As far as I can tell, it used FIR filters and a pretty sophisticated algorithm for com...

Re: Information about the 3 Pi Subwoofer
Those are good questions, thanks for asking. The three π subwoofer is a good general-purpose subwoofer that covers the 20-200Hz decade. It was designed to be a high-quality subwoofer in a convenient size. It isn't specifically designed to be a flank...

Re: Why do you not use summed bass for flanking subs?
I found what maybe a potential compromise. I still use summed signal. I set crossover on the AVR fairly high - 160-200Hz. I then add 1st order low pass filter at a lower frequency (80-100Hz) directly in the DSP for my front subwoofer amplifier. I fou...

Re: Why do you not use summed bass for flanking subs?
I suppose you could send a summed signal to flanking subs, and it would probably work pretty well in most cases. The problem is that lower-midrange content panned hard left or hard right would go to both flanking subs even though only one of the mains...
