I need to replace the filter choke in my mcintosh 60 power amp.I have a part # M-174 but have no idea what the specs are.ie henerys,ma,ohms ? can any one out there help ? regards Rich

If it's a power supply filter choke, you can go with the rule that "bigger is better." The higher the inductance, the better. Same with wire diameter since that sets current carrying capacity.

If you're looking for a direct replacement part then hopefully someone else will chime in. But if you're looking for specifications of a suitable replacement, then go with the biggest coil that will fit, both in inductance and current carrying capacity.

we are factory authorized for mcintosh. i checked with the factory, and the original choke is no longer available.

Specs on the M-174:

.116A, 37.5 ohm, 1.84 Hy

SAM's gives the following as substitutes:

Haldorson C5037
Merit C2974
Stancor C-2325
Thordarson 26C43
Triad C17X

All have different mounting and may require some sort of bracket.

The Hammond 159T 2.5H, 300ma, 43 ohms might work, but you'd need to check the size/mounting.

Lastly, did you consider rewinding? Chokes aren't very difficult to wind by hand. Just measure the wire gauge and count the windings as you unwind the old bobbin.
