We just got a new laptop and the sound quality is not quite what we were hoping for. What kind of speakers would you recommend to plug into a laptop?

Well, I can't vouch for the sound quality of any of these, but here is an interesting article with different types of speakers for the laptop. Perhaps it will give you a good starting point.

I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Anything Logitech is always a safe, sure bet when it comes to good speakers. The sound quality can be surprisingly decent for something so small!
