quasi- 4 Pi Pros KICK klipsh butt

OK, maybe a rude comparison, given the disparity in systems used to compare. I went to a small apartment to hear some '79 La Scala's, driven by a technics HT rcvr and cd changer. "Near Field", like 5 or 6 foot listening distance, was how small the room was. EVERY cd I tried sounded poor. Driving home, I thought, man, there MUST be something wrong with those K's. The guy is cool, I'll try one more time.
The jbl 2035 fitted quasi- 4 Pi Pro's, driven by a 70's era pioneer sa-7100 20 watt integrated amp, and garage sale kenwood dp-700 cd player sounded SEVERAL orders of magnitude better this morning than what I heard last night over his K's. Tonal balance with the psd-2002 and 1.6kHz. Pi xover is doing the mids and highs so much cleaner and natural than the K's. The jbl 2035's, box plot guesstimated being 7dB down at 50Hz.(hey, don't laugh, 2226H guesstimated at 6dB down at 50Hz.), are going considerably deeper than the -3/53Hz. la scala specs.
Last night, Norah Jones piano and vocals sounded much better using a pair of diy TQWT speakers. "parts kit" was $50, plans I made up as I built. "xover" is a 10 foot length of 16ga. ofc zipcord:)
Wayne, all I could tell the guy was, "man, I'm disappointed, maybe I'm just not a klipsch customer?". I have never liked my klipsch KG2's enough for them to do main system LR duty, so they are relegated to "back room" computer monitor status:(
I can't wait to get him to sit in front of the altec/jbl biamped system or hear the quasi 4 Pi's with the pioneer amp, sooo sweet.
If those la scalas are worth a grand, I'd have to get at least $2K to even start to consider parting with the 4 Pi Pros, and then I would probably rather build them a new pair rather than let mine go:) Sam
